“The Thief’s Story” by Ruskin Bond is about a 15-year-old thief who meets a simple and kind man named Anil. The thief introduces himself as Hari Singh and asks for work. Anil, a struggling writer, agrees to let him stay and even starts teaching him how to read and write.

Hari plans to rob Anil, but over time, he begins to enjoy the honesty and warmth in Anil’s company. One day, when Anil receives a large sum of money, Hari steals it and runs away. But as he reaches the railway station, he feels guilty. He realizes that Anil is the only person who ever trusted him and helped him change for the better.

In the end, Hari returns to Anil’s house and quietly puts the money back. The next morning, Anil says nothing about the theft. Instead, he gives Hari some money and continues teaching him. Hari feels grateful and decides to become an honest person.

लेकिन स्टेशन पहुँचकर उसका मन बदल जाता है। उसे अनिल का भरोसा याद आता है और यह भी एहसास होता है कि अनिल ही पहला व्यक्ति है जिसने उस पर विश्वास किया और उसे सुधारने का मौका दिया।
